lyrics

I've got nothing to complain about
I'm happy, happy
Windows open, letting in the sun
Fourth floor, East Harlem

I can hear the music
Of the ice cream man
"Pop Goes the Weasel"
Over and over again

We got ourselves a railroad apartment
Owned by this Italian
Who grew up in the neighborhood
Made some money and moved to Long Island

He is very happy now
The community is changing
Young Urban Professionals
Will be moving in and renovating

There are those people
Who want to live downtown
But the average couple can't afford to live
In a studio apartment in the East Village

Our dog is happy stalking stray cats
When we're walking amongst the burned out flats
Empty lots, litter, dog shit and chewing gum
On the sidewalks of East Harlem

At night, out come the water bugs
And those things with a hundred legs
Crawling across the bathroom tub, who cares, right?
I'm sleeping anyway

I've got nothing to complain about
I'm happy, happy
Windows open, letting in the sun
Fourth floor, East Harlem

There are teenagers
Loafing around on the street
Car radios blasting
A bass-y beat

I've got nothing to complain about
I'm happy, happy
Windows open, letting in the sun
Fourth floor, East Harlem

I see signs all over
For places to rent
Some in the nice brownstones
But most in the tenements

Connie Acher New York, New York

A New York City visual artist, Melodie Provenzano conceived of "Connie Acher" in 1996, while obsessively creating outsider folk pop on her four track late at night. Propelled by the tribulations of love and being alive, "Acher" stands for "one who aches" and "Connie" represents the pseudonymous character of her musical voice. ... more
